Empowering Fair Pay for Assistants

In 2019, we advocated for fair pay for Personal Assistants supporting disabled individuals in Bury, working to ensure they receive the recognition and pay they deserve.

Why Fair Pay Matters

We researched the pay that Personal Assistants (PAs) were receiving in Bury and found that pay levels varied across the borough. We brought this evidence together in a report and met with key decision-makers, including the Director of Health and Social Care and local MPs.

Impact in Bury

Following this work, Bury introduced a pay scale for PAs within the borough. This was an important step towards recognising the value of Personal Assistants and creating more consistency and fairness in local pay.

Ongoing Challenges

However, we know that fair pay for PAs remains a national issue, even six years after this report. Our work in Bury is one example of how local action can drive change, but there is still more to do.
