Empowering Support: Your Guide to Personalised Support Courses
At Your Support Matters, we focus on empowering individuals and families to choose the support they need. Through our community projects and training programmes, we aim to enhance lives across Greater Manchester, creating meaningful outcomes for the people we support and their Personal Assistants.
We offer bespoke courses for Personal Assistants and Individual Employers. Below you can find an overview of our current training options.
Courses for Personal Assistants
Empowering Personal Assistants
This four-day, in-person course gives new and experienced Personal Assistants a deeper understanding of their role.
You will explore the differences between a PA and a traditional carer, and how to build a healthy working relationship with your employer.
We look at the history of disability and share information and inspiration about your legal rights as a Personal Assistant and how you can make a positive impact on the lives of the people you support.
Courses for Individual Employers
How to Be a Good Employer
On this course, we explore what makes a good employer and what can lead to poor working relationships. We look at real-life scenarios and share experiences of being an Individual Employer. We prefer the term ‘employer’ rather than ‘boss’, as it supports a more equal partnership between employer and employee. The course also covers the legal responsibilities of being an employer.
This course can be delivered online or in person.
Self-Directed Support: Understanding Personal Budgets
Our Self-Directed Support course helps individuals and professionals understand the process of getting a personal budget or direct payment from their local authority. We go through the seven stages of getting a budget, from financial assessment to writing a support plan and recruiting a Personal Assistant safely.
This is a two-day course, available online or in person.
